Privacy Policy

Run Koda LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the RunKoda platform located at runkoda.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. By accessing or using RunKoda, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Personal Information

When you register for an account, we may collect:

  • Email address
  • Name (if provided)
  • Password (stored in hashed form only)
  • Profile information you choose to provide

1.2 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you use the Service, including:

  • IP address and approximate geographic location
  • Browser type, version, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent on pages, and navigation patterns
  • Date and time of access
  • Referring website or source
  • Device identifiers and characteristics

1.3 Code and Project Data

When you use our cloud IDE features, we store:

  • Source code files you create or upload within your workspaces
  • Project configuration files
  • Terminal command history within active sessions
  • AI chat conversations related to your projects

Your code and project data are stored on our servers to provide the cloud IDE functionality. We do not use your code to train AI models or share it with third parties, except as required to provide the Service (e.g., sending code context to AI providers for AI-assisted features you initiate).

1.4 Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain sessions, remember preferences, and analyze usage patterns. You may configure your browser to reject cookies, but some features of the Service may not function properly without them.

1.5 AI Usage Data

When you use AI-assisted features, we record metadata about each request — the model used, the number of tokens processed (input, output, cached, and reasoning), timestamps, and the cost computed at RunKoda's rates — in order to operate AI quotas and budgets, prevent abuse, and bill usage. This metering is generated by RunKoda and is the authoritative record of your AI usage.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information for the following purposes:

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • To create and manage your account
  • To process transactions and send related information
  • To meter AI usage and enforce plan quotas, budgets, overage, and billing
  • To provide AI-assisted coding features (by sending relevant code context to AI model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google)
  • To send administrative information, such as account verification emails, password resets, and service updates
  • To respond to your comments, questions, and support requests
  • To monitor and analyze usage trends to improve the Service
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or security breaches
  • To enforce our Terms of Service

2.1 Monitoring, Security, and Abuse Prevention

To keep the Service secure and lawful, we may monitor, log, and analyze account activity, resource usage, network traffic, deployments, and — where reasonably necessary for security, fraud and abuse prevention, billing integrity, or legal compliance — project and workspace content. We use both automated systems and manual review to detect and respond to prohibited use, fraud, ban evasion, and other abuse described in our Terms of Service. We may preserve and investigate relevant information, suspend or terminate offending accounts, and, where we believe in good faith it is necessary, disclose information to and cooperate with law enforcement, regulators, or other authorities, or report activity we reasonably believe to be unlawful. We do not use this monitoring to access your private code for any purpose other than operating, securing, and enforcing proper use of the Service.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • AI Service Providers: When you use AI-assisted features, relevant code context and prompts are sent to third-party AI providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) to generate responses. These providers process data according to their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.
  • Email Service Providers: We use third-party email services (e.g., SendGrid) to send transactional emails such as account verification and password reset messages.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • With Your Consent: We may share information with third parties when you explicitly authorize us to do so.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
  • Hashed password storage using secure algorithms
  • Isolated Docker containers for each workspace
  • Regular security audits and updates

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You acknowledge that you provide your information at your own risk.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information and project data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or compliance purposes. Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before being permanently removed.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements.
  • Portability: You may request your data in a portable format.
  • Opt-out: You may unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time. Transactional emails related to your account cannot be opted out of while your account is active.

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@runkoda.com.

7. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and maintained on servers located outside your country of residence, where data protection laws may differ. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States or other countries where our servers are located.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 16, we will take steps to delete such information promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We recommend reviewing this policy periodically.
